Stone surfaces are porous and act like a sponge in the presence of moisture and fluids. The natural stone has been sealed with layers of penetrating sealers to help protect against water, oil, and other main stains. What mainly causes stains are red wine and mustard. Any acids found in foods or liquids, such as citrus fruits and tomatoes can also etch the stone. You should clean your countertop immediately if any of these are on your counter.
